*Please note – The number of days of face to face practical training and assessment is determined for each individual learner based on a pre-screening assessment and how each person meets the pre-requisite requirements. Split System Course Purpose
Successfully completing our air conditioning course entitles you to a UEE20120 – Certificate II in Split Air Conditioning and Heat Pump Systems, which you can use to apply for a refrigerant handling licence.
This license will allow you to install, commission, and decommission single head, split air conditioners and heat systems up to 18kW.
This course is suited to licensed electricians looking to upgrade their skills, 3rd or 4th year electrical apprentices who want to specialise in split system air conditioners, and plumbers or gas fitters who want to enter the air conditioning industry.
Our training course includes all the knowledge and skills required to enter the air conditioning industry and conduct work according to industry standards.
Prerequisites for Electrical Courses Adelaide Students Need to Know
To be able to undertake the UEE20120 – Certificate II in Split Air Conditioning and Heat Pump Systems course, you must satisfy one of the following prerequisites:
- For Electricians – Current Electrical Work Licence
- For 3rd or 4th year Electrical Apprentices – Who have Successful completion of the required units of competency outlined in the first year of an electrotechnology apprenticeship, and have at least two years of industry experience
- Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is offered to non-electrical workers who wish to undertake this course who have a trade qualification in the following trades:
– Plumbers
– Gas fitters
- Trade Assistants currently working full-time for Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning companies (for a minimum period of 6-18 months) may also be eligible to complete this qualification with recognition of prior learning (RPL).
Adelaide Course Funding

Get Skilled training currently has funding allocations for the following units within this qualification:

Please note: You must complete the course before Get Skilled Training can process a claim with CITB. Students must provide their bank details to have the subsidy reimbursed which will be paid within 5 business days of Get Skilled Training receiving the CITB subsidy. It may take 2 weeks for CITB to approve the funding rebate after Get Skilled Training has submitted the claim (please allow 3 to 4 weeks after completion of your course to receive the rebate).
Apprentices within the first 24 months of their apprenticeship will not be eligible for funding as referenced in the CITB apprentice toolkit booklet. The subsidy cannot be provided for units of competency that Credit Transfer is granted for.
South Australia Only – Things to Know Beforehand
Our split system course can allow you to apply for a Refrigerant Handling Licence with the Australian Refrigeration Council (ARC) this is required to conduct any work!
On successful completion of this air conditioning course students who will be undertaking work in South Australia will be required to apply to the Consumer and Business Services (CBS) for a building licence.
There are two types of licences you can apply for with the CBS:
1. Air Conditioning Installation limited to wall or ground mounted Split Systems.
2. Air Conditioning Installation (all air conditioning installation).
To obtain a license with CBS, you will need to meet the requirements of the supervisor registration and CBS Building Contracting license (Air conditioning Installation) (This does not have to be the same person).
When applying for a supervisor registration, you will need to take pathway 2 (Demonstration of knowledge and experience through satisfactory completion of the work history and onsite experience recorded to be able to attend a building supervisor registration/license interview).
Please Note: The interview will be based upon the evidence provided, which must align with the performance criteria.
To meet the requirements of a Building contractor license, you will need to complete an additional four business units of competency. For more information, visit the CBS website at cba.sa.gov.au

Course Outcome & Career Pathways
Air Con Course Outcome
On successful completion of the air conditioning course, you’ll be qualified to apply for a restricted Refrigerant Handling Licence from the Australian Refrigeration Council (ARC).
This licence is also known as the Restricted Split System Air Conditioning Installation and Decommissioning Licence and allows you to work with refrigerants for the installation and decommissioning of split system air conditioners under 18kW.
Career Pathways
Once you have successfully completed this air conditioning course and you have obtained a restricted Refrigerant Handling Licence, you will be qualified to install and decommission split system air conditioners that don’t exceed 18kW. This includes ducted, wall hung, floor and ceiling mounted units.
Those who have completed this course will also be qualified to take the Certificate III in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (UEE32220) and other courses listed in the UEE Training Package for advancing industry skills and expanding career prospects.
